1994 Cab Calloway died at the age of 86.

ENTERTAINMENT
1951 - Chuck Connors (Los Angeles Angels) became the first player to oppose the major league draft. Connors later became the star of the television show “The Rifleman.”

1952 - Bill Haley marries his pregnant girlfriend just four days after he divorces his first wife.

1956 - Fats Domino appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and sang his hit “Blueberry Hill”, which was still rising up the US charts on its way to #2.

1957 - Ricky Nelson records “Stood Up”, which will reach #2 early the following year.

1960 - Mark Dinning performed “The Lovin’ Touch” on “American Bandstand.”

1964 - The Supremes appear on TV’s Rock ‘n’ Roll show, Shindig! and perform “Baby Love” and “Come See About Me.” The Righteous Brothers are also on the bill, and sing “Little Latin Lupe Lu”.

1970 - Jerry Lee Lewis divorces his wife (and cousin) Myra Brown. Brown married the Killer 13 years ago - when she was only 14. She later says the couple spent only three nights alone during their years together.

1979 - Chuck Berry was released from Lompoc Prison Farm in California after serving four months for tax evasion. While he was away, his last studio album of new material, “Rockit”, was issued by Atco Records.

1990- The Righteous Brothers saw their popularity return when the movie, Ghost, (starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore) featured their 1965 hit, “Unchained Melody”.
